Near Wild Heaven Haiku

Early at Mary

The morning mist lifts
and sun burns into blue sky
as our day begins.

Spinning out, the lure lands
near the shore weeds hiding bass.
Set the hook and reel.

Monday

At the Antler bar
the first round is on Grandpa.
The night has just begun.

Grain Belt Premium:
"It'll do" better than Schmidts,
but no Miller Lite.

One by one we come
down the candle lit hill,
around the fire we laugh.

Canoe

Loons diving under
the surface surprise us as
we watch them return.

Glide smoothly canoe,
my paddle dipping gently,
a turtle suns himself.

Matt

Matt's Scooby Doo rod
catches yellow perch from the dock
with bobber and worms.

Everywhere else
Matt catches girls with his smile
and four-year-old charm.

Not exactly Haiku, but Dave had this plate made for himself, and it is poetry, don't you think?

Chicken Recipe

In large pot or bowl combine the following:

juice of two limes
1 12 oz. can tomato juice
6-8 large cloves of garlic, minced
1 heaping tablespoon salt
1 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon basil (dried)
2 tablespoons sugar

Cut up 4-5 chicken and add to marinade, covering all pieces. Mix several times over while marinating (two-three hours). Grill outside on low to medium heat.

I cleaned out the downstairs closet the day after Christmas this year (2005). In a box labeled "Old Writing," I found two old journals. In one was a list of movie titles. So for everyone who ever wondered "what ever happened to that list of our favorite movies," you need wonder no more. Here it is as it is in the journal (not alphabetized, not organized). It is interesting to note the apparent associations as you read down the list, that is how one title perhaps conjured the next.
